Commencing the felicitation parade His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa placed
his signature on the flag on 3rd June at Temple Trees.
Out of the week long programme that has been already scheduled to commemorate the World Blood Donor Day 2014,
by the Ministry of Health, National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) and the WHO, the key event is the vehicle parade
which commenced from four different parts of the country namely Kamburugamuwa,Jaffna,Trincomalee and Ampara on 4th June to
reach Colombo over a period of 4 days,passing many major cities while felicitating more than 10,000 voluntary blood donors.
In parallel, more than 50,000 signatures of blood donors, mobile organizers and well-wishers will be obtained onto the flag of
National Blood Transfusion Service, to keep a Guinness World Record.
